TECHNOLOGY: Design Advantages

HyPEG technology is truly large-scale, complementing wind-turbine and solar energy, providing grid stability when the sun goes down or the wind stops blowing. HyPEGs require no additional permanent structures to be built on land (or in the water), resulting in minimal impact to the environment. The raw electrical current from the generator goes ashore via submerged, protected cables to the generator controller that is housed on land, close to the water's edge in a NEMA enclosure, from which the power is fed directly onto the grid. HyPEGs do not require any improvements to the electrical grid.

One of the single greatest benefits of HyPEG is that they are designed to operate completely out of the weather, resulting in uninterruptible power continuously over the life of the generator regardless of the surrounding weather conditions 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. Hurricanes, tornados, freezing rain and frozen rivers have no effect on them; as long as the water flows, they will deliver power.

HyPEGs are huge and mostly steel. There is very little new technology to be developed. The generators & controllers are constant-speed type (an industrial standard).
