TECHNOLOGY: Environmental Impact

HyPEGs are specifically designed to be almost completely benign to the environment. They offer no places for predators to hide, and since there are no fast-moving components, sharp edges or close-fitting moving components, they offer a fish-friendly alternative to other hydrokinetic generators under study. The Base offers a positive component to the river bottom as a large, stationary environment around which smaller aquatic life can mature (like an artificial reef). All of the electronics are ashore and the generators operate in a housing that has a dry sump that is continuously monitored for flooding or lubricant leakage.

HyPEGs produce no emissions and no heat. In fact, they help remove heat from the shore-based power plant to which they use as a grid-tie; the more HyPEGs are deployed the less heat that is dissipated into the river.

HyPEGs can be made of river-friendly materials and do not need to use any exotic, high-performance materials or lubricants.

HyPEGs complement Wind and Solar energies very well -- but unlike wind turbines, solar thermal farms, etc., HyPEGs are 100% transparent; once deployed they become invisible to the landscape.
